The Plague and the Renaissance

Not sure where this is going, but I'm beginning to wonder if the cycle of innovation throughout our history was triggered by plagues, followed by religious fervor which exacerbated the plagues until finally people turned toward science for answers.

This cycle seems to be repeating itself.

Why on Earth do they feel so mistreated, vilified or discriminated against? Isn't it obvious?
